The ceremony moves into the heart of theatreland to celebrate the 60th year of the coveted honours. The list of past winners is a roll-call of British acting royalty, from Richard Burton and Laurence Olivier to Ian McKellen and Benedict Cumberbatch and from Vanessa Redgrave and Maggie Smith to Helen Mirren and Rachel Weisz. Judges for this year’s prizes are yet to meet but the celebration on November 30 will reflect another stellar year of theatre.
The diverse performances include Matt Smith in the stage version of the cult novel American Psycho, Tom Hiddleston in Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, Gillian Anderson in A Streetcar Named Desire and Billie Piper in Richard Bean’s phone hacking satire Great Britain.
