On the 21st and 22nd of November, time-travelling madness will descend on the city of Sydney, when the Doctor Who Festival takes over the Hordern Pavilion. Joining the already impressive lineup of guests — which includes writer Steven Moffat and current Doctor, Peter Capaldi — are a new group of veritable Doctor Who royalty, including the Ninth and Tenth Doctors’ favourite companion, Billie Piper, and the classic Seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy.
As the official, BBC-sanctioned Doctor Who event, you can expect the best fan experience to be found in all of time and space — if you’re lucky enough to be heading along. Also appearing will be Dan Starkey — who’s a little less recognisable outside of the alien makeup he wears when playing Strax the Sontaran. If the green skin and odd proportions are your thing, however, he will be hosting a special hands-on session that will teach fans what it takes to be a Doctor Who monster. He’ll also be joined by Jon Davey, one of the series’ most prolific monster actors, having appeared in over 30 episodes as a multitude of different creatures.
There will also be a live monster make-up demonstration on the day, along with the reveal of a never-before-seen series nine monster. The BBC is also flying over an entire set from the most recent series, all the way from Cardiff. Sylvester McCoy, most recently known for starring alongside Martin Freeman in The Hobbit, still hasn’t lost his classic Gallifreyan character, saying “I’m over the moon, quite literally, as I’ll be coming by TARDIS!”
