Her most famous role is as Rose Tyler, companion to The Doctor from 2005 to 2006, in the BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who, a role she reprised in 2008, 2010, and 2013. Broadcast magazine listed Piper at no. 6 in its “Hot 100″ list of influential on-screen performers; she was the top woman on the list. From 2007 until 2011, she starred as the high-flying escort Belle de Jour in the TV series Secret Diary of a Call Girl. She currently stars as Brona, an Irish immigrant, in the horror TV series Penny Dreadful.

Billie switched on Steele’s Village’s Christmas Lights yesterday evening, she attended her local village, taking her sons Eugene and Winston with her! Hopefully we’ll have more photos soon!
Former Dr Who assistant Billie Piper looked most at home amongst the dry ice but was almost upstaged by, of all things, a canape: ‘I’m having a “choking on horseraddish” moment,’ she told Antoinette Alexis, the young British actress who then had to act as her chaperone back to the safety of the champagne bar. ‘I just offered my congratulations to beautiful Antoinette on surviving her first major audition because like for a lot of our young acting talent it’s not easy this acting lark.’
‘Yes, the casting director was ripping me apart today Billie,’ Miss Alexis told her, as both shook their heads. ‘An actor’s life,’ they both said, laughing ear to ear in unison. Billie Piper was, until three weeks ago starring in Great Britain at the National Theatre.
Ms Piper has agreed to press the button at Thursday’s Steele’s Village Christmas celebrations. The actress, who lives in Steele’s Village, will do the honours at about 5.15pm outside The Legal Cafe in Haverstock Hill.
There will also be carol performances from a host of choirs, a Santa’s grotto, a fashion show and free food and drinks laid on by nearby restaurants. The festivities will begin at 4.30pm and continue into the evening.
Lynn Whiting, chairman of the Steele’s Village Business Association, said: “It’s the best community event in the whole of north west London!”
Presenter Jonathan Ross and actor Andy Serkis are among the stars who have already helped to light up Hampstead and Highgate this year.
On Saturday, Tom Conti is set to turn on the Belsize Park lights outside Budgens in Haverstock Hill.
