Billie Piper, a two-time BAFTA Awards nominee for her work in Dr. Who, is currently in talks to star in a New York transfer of the Young Vic production of Simon Stone’s Yerma, according to the Daily Mail.

Piper starred in the title role of Yerma, which played a limited engagement at London’s Young Vic this past summer. The play revolves around a woman whose fierce desire to be a mother is met with painful indifference by her husband, provoking a desperate reaction. This contemporary version was written and directed by leading Australian director Stone, adapted from Federico García Lorca’s work.

Discussions are currently underway to bring Piper, who won an Evening Standard Award for her performance, and the play to New York’s Park Avenue Armory in 2018. Piper reportedly turned down a chance to bring the production to Broadway because of the time commitment to make it financially viable; the actor has two young sons.

Piper was also seen on the London stage in Great Britain at the National Theatre, where she previously starred in the world premiere of The Effect. Her other theatre credits include Neil LaBute’s Reasons to Be Pretty at the Almeida and Treats at the West End’s Garrick Theatre.

Stone’s Sydney adaptation of The Wild Duck previously transferred to London’s Barbican and inspired his debut film feature The Daughter.
